So this week I thought I’d talk about the hotels right near Disneyland, because who doesn’t love Disneyland? Our family went through a phase of making sure that every family holiday had a Disney component and had a great time doing it.

We’ve been to the original Disneyland Park twice now and we got to know what we like in accommodation. I should point out that we don’t spend a lot of time lounging around at a hotel. We like clean sheets and a clean bathroom, with ideally a hearty breakfast thrown in as well. Our style is to get up early, have breakfast then hit the ground running. So if you’re into lounging around in your room till lunch, this may not be the post for you.

General Location

Disneyland faces South Harbor Boulevard and the hotels start directly across the road from the main entrance. This was a situation that Walt Disney didn’t repeat when it came to future parks. He felt that the hotels and gift shops lined up outside the front gate detracted from Disneyland itself.

All future parks were built with ample spare land around them to provide a buffer between fantasy and reality. Not to mention it made it a lot more difficult to slip out of the park and across the street for food, instead of buying food within the park. We do enjoy the odd meal inside Disney parks but it can get a bit pricey when feeding a family. Whats nearby?

Across the road from the park, there is an IHop, Denny’s, McDonalds, Tony Romas and a Pizza Hut Express, as well as a few other places. This makes it quite easy to nip out for a quick bite then back for the rest of the shows. For much the same reason I also favor the hotels across the road. If you have young kids it is very easy to head back to the room after lunch for a nap and a recharge, then charge back across the road for the afternoon and evening entertainment.

Getting Around

Now there are a lot of hotels around Disneyland and they cater for most tastes and budgets. I am focusing on motel style hotels within a 5 minute walk from the front entrance. I say motel style because Anaheim and Los Angeles are primarily car places. There is public transport, but don’t expect to use it in the same way you would get around in London. No, the car is king around here and having a hotel room that you can park in front of is a huge bonus, especially when you have small children and a healthy luggage count.

What other attractions are near Disneyland

The car also helps when you want to take in other attractions like Knotts Berry Farm, Six Flags, Universal Studios, San Diego Sea World etc. You can get tour buses to go to these, but frankly with kids in tow they’re not going to be focused on the scenery, and they can be quite costly with a whole family.

Hotels near Disneyland

We have personally stayed at the Park Vue Inn and we would call it cheap and cheerful. We would definitely go back there if it was available. They gave you a breakfast that filled us up till 4pm, then we had an early dinner and only had to buy one meal a day, plus some ice creams…..obviously.
